Classes for total beginners in bluegrass and clawhammer banjo, fiddle and mandolin are being offered in Asheville, North Carolina. These beginning classes are for people of ALL ages, and will be taught by Wayne Erbsen, who has taught for over forty years and has authored twenty-five books on playing various musical instruments. He is host of Asheville's Public Radio WCQS "Country Roots" radio program on Sunday evenings at 88.1 FM from 7:00 -9:00 PM. Listen live on Sunday nights www.wcqs.org On-Going Class: The Log Cabin Band I 7:30- 8:30ish PM Tuesdays. This group of semi-beginners on fiddle, mandolin, bluegrass and clawhammer banjo, guitar and bass is open to people who have recently started to play their instrument, and are looking for further instruction and an opportunity to play with other folks who are at the same level. Each week all the instruments will learn at least one new tune and play tunes and jam on the group's growing list of bluegrass and old-time songs. Cost: If you sign up for at least 6 consecutive classes, it's $120. If you'd rather pick and choose the classes you attend, it's $25/class. COME JOIN OUR BAND! It's FUN! On-Going Class: The Log Cabin Band II 7:30- 9:00ish Thursday evenings. This intermediate bluegrass & old band is an ongoing "institution" that combines about a dozen intermediate level musicians who play fiddle, mandolin, bluegrass and clawhammer banjo, guitar and bass. If you can play some tunes on your instrument but don't have the opportunity of playing with other people, you are encouraged to contact Wayne for more information. Each week all the instruments will learn one or two new tunes and play tunes and sing songs in our growing list of bluegrass and old-time songs. NEW CLASSES STARTING SEPTEMBER 9, 2008. Introduction to Bluegrass & Clawhammer Banjo. 6:00 - 7:00 PM Tuesday evenings. This unique class give banjo lovers a chance to learn bluegrass and/or clawhammer banjo. It will meet for six sessions, and will continue with an optional six week session after that. NOTE: For the 1st meeting, Bluegrass and Clawhammer banjo pickers will meet separately for just their first class, and together after that. Clawhammer banjo students will meet at 5:00 PM on September 9, 2008 and Bluegrass students will meet at 6:00 PM on September 9, 2008. Starting on the 2nd meeting, September 16, 2008, Clawhammer and Bluegrass banjo students will meet together at 6:00 PM. COST: $120 for 6 sessions plus $19.95 for Wayne's book Bluegrass Banjo for the Complete Ignoramus! or Clawhammer Banjo for the Complete Ignoramus! (Both books include instructional CD). please register in advance. You are entitled to a full refund if
you are unsatisfied with the quality of the teaching and are not learning
anything. To qualify for a refund, you must attend all classes and make a

circumstances. Payment is normally made on the first night of class, unless other
arrangements are made. Instrumental Rental: A few banjos and fiddles are available to

The classes will be held in a perfect setting in the large living room of
a 1940s log cabin located at 111 Bell Road in east Asheville, North
Carolina. In cold weather, we'll gather around the hearth with a raging
fire in the fireplace.
Directions: Log Cabin Cooking & Music is located at
111 Bell Road, just off off New Haw Creek Road in the Haw Creek section of
East Asheville. From Highway 240
in Asheville, take exit #7. From 240 going East, turn left at the
light. From 240 going West, turn right at the light. Now you're on
Tunnel Road going east. At the very first light, turn left and then take
a sudden right on New Haw Creek Road. Go about 1 ˝ miles. On your
right you’ll see a baseball field. Turn right at the beginning of the ball
field on Bell Road. Pass Evergreen Charter School on your left. You’ll see
a new development on your right, (Ozark Springs Road) and then our big
garden on the right. At the end of the garden, you’ll see two big black
mailboxes that say 111 and 109. Turn right there. As you come up the
driveway, the cabin will be on your left. You can park either in front of
