Cabin Retreat Center
The Log Cabin Retreat Center is a 1940s
log cabin located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on the
eastern edge of Asheville, North Carolina. Surrounded by tall oaks and
pines, we are situated on about two acres that backs up to the Blue
Ridge Parkway with easy access to hiking on the Mountain to Sea Trail,
creeks, native timber, wildlife and magnificent vistas.
The cabin itself has all the charm you
would expect from an authentic 1940s log cabin. The main room is large
(28' x 17'), yet cozy and inviting, with a wooden beadboard ceiling,
beautiful heart pine floors and a rock fireplace. In addition, there are
three smaller rooms plus two bathrooms. The large kitchen is fixed up
like the 1940s retro kitchen that it is, and even includes a fully
functioning 1928 Home Comfort wood cookstove.
The Log Cabin Retreat Center is an ideal
place to hold small get-togethers, workshops, conferences, meetings and
retreats. It can comfortably accommodate about twenty people. We are an
easy 12 minute drive from downtown Asheville, NC.
Your hosts at the Log Cabin Retreat
Center are the husband and wife team of Barbara Swell and Wayne Erbsen.
Barbara is an avid gardener and food historian who has written eight best-selling
cookbooks and is available to prepare meals for your retreat if
requested. Wayne Erbsen is well-known musician, author, publisher and
radio personality. He has recorded eighteen solo CDs and is available to
perform old-time music and bluegrass music on fiddle, banjo, guitar and

Directions: The Log Cabin Retreat Center is a 1940s
log cabin located at 111 Bell Road in Asheville. From Highway 240, get off
at exit #7, which is Tunnel Road. Head east on Tunnel Road. At the very
first light, turn left and then take an immediate right on New Haw Creek
Road. Go about 1 ˝ miles. On your right you’ll see a baseball field. Turn
right at the beginning of the ball field on Bell Road. Pass Evergreen
Charter School on your left. You’ll see a new development on your right,
(Ozark Springs Road) and then our big garden on the right. At the end of
the garden, you’ll see two big black mailboxes that say 111 and 109. Turn
right there. As you come up the driveway, the Log Cabin Retreat Center will be on your left.
